When I Joined the Living Dead

by TS S. Fulk

I should not have been there

but I took a shortcut

hurrying for a date

naturally I got mugged

my slashed artery gushed

like a champaign fountain

In shock my mind danced in and out

gracefully between their lush screams

after the crying chorus dimmed

a decorous voice sang to me

—hush my child it will soon be done

her rakish beauty transfixed me

nailed me upon a crucifix

as she siphoned my life essence

I exist in limbo

neither living nor truly dead
